PHOENIX — Authorities determined a young girl who was critically injured earlier this month after falling from a moving vehicle onto a Phoenix-area freeway had accidentally unbuckled herself.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Raul Garcia said in an email to KTAR News 92.3 FM that the 8-year-old did so while in a car on Interstate 10 in Buckeye on April 8.
She was moving within the passenger compartment of the 1997 Nissan Quest minivan when she “inadvertently” grabbed the sliding door handle and caused it to open.
Garcia said, at this time, there were no criminal charges or citations recommended for the driver.
The girl’s condition was not known.
