Inaugural Arcosanti international film festival taking place this month

Apr 18, 2019, 4:15 AM

PHOENIX — Move over FORM, a new arts festival is making its way to Arcosanti.

The eco-city is to host the first ever Arcosanti International Film Carnivale on April 26-28.

While the festival accepts documentaries on all topics, it has special divisions for films on sustainability, conservation, Native American culture, holistic and organic living, art, design, architecture, fashion, culinary arts, social change and the human condition, according to a press release.

Weekend passes are $100, and a limited amount of VIP passes are available for $300.

VIP passes include an exclusive dinner, cocktail reception and a party inside the former apartment of one of the city’s original architects, Paolo Soleri.

Wine Vault tickets can also be purchased starting at $25 that allow guests to sample Arizona wine and craft beer.

“The Arcosanti International Film Carnivale’s mission is to celebrate the art of documentary cinema and enrich the community by presenting an annual world-class event,” festival spokeswoman Holly Harmon, said in the release.

“The event is anticipated to become one of Arizona’s top destination film festivals because of its unique locale and multi-artistic and multi-cultural facets.”

In addition to the film festival, other activities will include art exhibitions, educational workshops, panels and live music.

A Venetian-inspired masquerade ball will also be held in the Arcosanti vaults, and guests are urged to incorporate the desert landscape into their costumes, according to the release.
