PHOENIX — Residents in the West Valley who want to participate in traditional Easter activities while giving back to their community can do so this weekend.
The 43rd Dolly Sanchez Memorial Easter Egg Hunt will take place at the Peoria Sports Complex from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Not only will the event feature Easter egg hunts for children under 10, there will also be crafts, carnival games, pony rides and a petting zoo.
Family scavenger hunts will take place from 8-11 a.m.
Those who bring donations for the St. Mary’s Food Bank will receive free admission and parking.
The event was started by its namesake, Dolly Sanchez, in 1976. Sanchez was a member of the Peoria Community Action Program and Parks and Recreation Board.
Past hunts have taken place in Varney Park and other neighborhood parks throughout Peoria until it moved permanently to the Peoria Sports Complex in 1994.
