Gilbert creates ‘Game of Thrones’ video to encourage proper recycling

PHOENIX — Just in time for the hit show’s premiere of its final season Sunday night, the town of Gilbert released a “Game of Thrones”-themed video to encourage residents to “recycle right.”

The video shows a man walk out of his house and toss plastic bags full of waste into his recycling bin.

As most recyclers know, plastic bags aren’t supposed to be put in curbside bins because they can get stuck in sorting machines.

The man is followed around by “Thrones”-esque characters who yell “Shame!” and throw newspapers and garbage at him.

Gilbert officials aren’t the first group to use the show’s power of popularity to encourage people to do good — the Red Cross created a “Game of Thrones” campaign in March to draw in more blood donations.

The final season of “Game of Thrones” premieres on HBO on Sunday night at 6 p.m. Arizona time.
