PHOENIX — An 18-year-old was killed and another 18-year-old was injured in a road rage incident in Glendale on Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Police said they received a call about a violent incident around 4:30 p.m. near 67th and Peoria avenues.

Officers found a vehicle that had crashed into a wall outside of a gas station with two 18-year-old male victims inside who appeared to have been shot.

Police said the driver, Phoenix resident Alexander John Pettygrove, was hospitalized with a life-threatening injury. He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Police said the second victim was hospitalized with an injury that was not life-threatening and he is recovering.

Witnesses reported to police that there was an altercation between the vehicle and another vehicle before the shooting.

They said the suspect vehicle pulled up beside Pettygrove’s vehicle in an intersection and people in both vehicles were exchanging words when Pettygrove threw a drink at the suspect vehicle.

Witnesses said the suspect then fired several rounds into the victims’ vehicle from his driver’s seat and fled the scene.

Police were still looking for the suspect, who was described as a Hispanic male in his 20s or 30s, Sunday morning. (Update: The suspect turned himself in, police said Monday. He was not identified.)

He was driving an “older model, smaller size” dark blue SUV.

The incident came less than two weeks after 10-year-old Summer Brown was fatally shot in a suspected road rage incident in Phoenix.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call Glendale Police at 623-930-3000 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

We want to hear from you.
