Arizona hunting commission seeking comment on proposed rule change

PHOENIX — Some forms of hiking could soon look different for Arizonans.
The Arizona Game and Fish Commission is weighing whether it should adopt a rule that would prohibit using lethal methods in a hunting contest for “predatory and fur-bearing animals.”
The rule would, according to the commission, “address social concerns” in hunting contests that award prizes to those with the most kills or highest variety of those type of animals.
It would not apply to lawful, regulated hunting of predatory and fur-bearing animals.
The commission is asking the public to provide feedback on the proposed rule change between Friday and May 12.
Comments can be submitted by emailing the commission or mailing them to the Arizona Game and Fish Department at 5000 W. Carefree Highway in Phoenix.
All of the submitted comments will become part of the official record for the proposed rule.
The comments will be evaluated before a Notice of Final Rulemaking is taken to the commission for its consideration.
If the rule is approved, it would be reviewed by the Governor’s Regulatory Review Council.
