PHOENIX — A man was arrested in Phoenix on Thursday after allegedly killing his wife, two young daughters and a man he believed was having an affair with his wife.
Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the suspect, identified Friday as 30-year-old Austin Smith, has been booked for the murders of 29-year-old Dasia Patterson, 7-year-old Mayan Smith and 5-year-old Nasha Smith, who were found at their home near 67th Avenue and Camelback Road on Thursday night.
Ron Freeman, 46, whom Smith believed was having an affair with his spouse, was found at a different location.
Patterson and Nasha Smith died of gunshot wounds, and police believe Mayan Smith was killed by blunt force trauma.
Smith told police God told him to commit the murders.
A third daughter, age 3, was found uninjured in the house.
Thompson said officers responded to the family home after arresting Smith in connection to a separate incident.
Police reported to a shooting call at an apartment complex near 39th Avenue and Osborn Road while shots were still being fired.
They found Freeman dead and two other victims with gunshot wounds. Smith fled but was apprehended after his car was stopped a few miles away, near 67th Avenue and Osborn Road.
The surviving victims were a 47-year-old woman in critical condition and a 33-year-old man with a non-life threatening injury.
Smith was booked on four counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault, Thompson said.
