14-year-old allegedly behind wheel in fatal East Valley crash

PHOENIX — A 14-year-old was allegedly behind the wheel in an East Valley crash that killed one teenager and critically wounded three more over the weekend.
Detective Nik Rasheta with the Mesa Police Department said the teenager crashed into another vehicle while turning into the Circle K gas station at Southern Avenue and Stapley Drive.
Three of the passengers in the vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries and a fourth was pronounced dead at the scene. They were all either 14 or 15.
The driver and passenger in the second vehicle were not severely injured. None of those involved were identified.
The 14-year-old driver was evaluated for impairment, but the results were not immediately known.
The crash occurred just after 8 p.m. Sunday.
No other information was immediately released.
