PHOENIX — Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has installed 75 bleeding suppression kits throughout its facilities.
Airport spokeswoman Heather Lissner told KTAR News 92.3 FM last week that the kits are “an effort to stay ahead and be better prepared for emergencies.”
“The Stop the Bleed kits, they are equipped with heavy-duty bleeding suppression medical supplies such as tourniquets, gauze, gloves, chest seals and instructions on how to use these supplies,” she said.
She said the kits are already installed in some airports, including in Tucson and Los Angeles.
Lissner said the kits are accessible to the public and are installed alongside automated external defibrillators, which have saved 53 lives at the airport since they were installed in 2001.
She said the police patrolling the airport also carry the bleeding suppression kits.
“They can be used for small or large emergencies,” Lissner said. “It gives bystanders the opportunity to step in and help stop the bleeding before trained professionals arrive on scene.”
