PHOENIX — A man has been arrested for allegedly murdering a woman after her body was found at a popular reservoir in northern Arizona over the weekend.
Patrick D. Nagel, a 62-year-old man from Happy Jack, was arrested Thursday on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, tampering with physical evidence, abandonment of a dead body and consuming liquor while operating a vehicle.
Detectives found evidence of the crime inside Nagel’s home. When he was brought in for questioning, Nagel admitted to striking the victim several times while she lay in bed. He then admitted to moving her body and concealing her in Bly Pit.
The body of a woman, preliminarily identified as 37-year-old Tika Young of Happy Jack, was found around 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Bly Pit near the Blue Ridge Reservoir.
The Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office is still working to definitively identify the body. It had undergone some decomposition by the time authorities located it.
Nagel is being held in Coconino County Jail on a $1 million bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
