Avondale police officer hospitalized after getting into wreck

PHOENIX – A West Valley police officer was hospitalized after being involved in a traffic accident Friday afternoon.
The unidentified officer’s injuries were not life-threatening, the Avondale Police Department said in a press release.
The occupant of the other vehicle was unhurt.
The collision occurred at around 12:30 p.m. when the officer was responding to a call for backup at a traffic stop near Avondale Boulevard and Roosevelt Street.
The cause of the accident was under investigation.
No other information was immediately available.
The wreck occurred one day after Phoenix Police Officer Paul Rutherford died after he was struck by an SUV while working at the scene of a separate collision.
