PHOENIX – The calendar may say spring, but the slopes say otherwise.

“We’re into winter again,” Rob Linde, assistant general manager at Arizona Snowbowl, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday.

With snowfall totals for the season above 300 inches and still rising, Linde said the Flagstaff ski resort will remain open Thursdays through Sundays at least through April.

“And then we’ll take a look at things to see how the conditions are after that,” he said.

The snow base on the mountain was at 94 inches Thursday morning.

Lind added that the possibility of staying open into May has been discussed, but it’s too early to make that decision.

“It wouldn’t be unheard of,” he said. “Maybe be nice Cinco de Mayo celebration.”

Although this season’s snowfall isn’t close to previous highs of around 450 inches, “It’s been a really amazing winter,” Linde said.

“Some of the storms that came through, the timing was perfect, just before some holiday periods,” he said.

“A lot of people really had the chance to come up to Snowbowl and have great time in all the snow.”

It’s a big contrast from last season, when Snowbowl depended on artificial snow.

“Last year without a snowmaking system, we wouldn’t have probably opened at all,” Linde said.

“And this year you can ski everything. I mean, any line that you want to go down on the mountain is all covered.”

We want to hear from you.
