PHOENIX – You might need the luck of the Irish to avoid traffic snags across the metro Phoenix over St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
In addition to closures and restrictions on several stretches of Valley freeways, traffic around Steele Indian School Park in central Phoenix will be snarled because of the three-day Pot of Gold Music Festival.
Officials suggest steering clear of the park, which sits north of Indian School Road between Central Avenue and Seventh Street, if you aren’t attending the show, which is being headlined by Ozuna on Friday night, Lil Wayne on Saturday and Post Malone on Sunday.
If you are going to the festival, be aware there is no parking on site. Attendees are encouraged to ride the light rail, which stops at two Central Avenue stations bordering the park, at Indian School Road and Campbell Avenue.
Because of the event, northbound Central will be closed to traffic between Indian School Road and Campbell between 9 p.m. and midnight each night, according to the city of Phoenix.
In addition, lanes will be restricted throughout each day on Third Street between Clarendon Avenue and Indian School Road and on Indian School between Third Street and Central.
If you’re traveling on the freeways in the coming days, know that the Arizona Department of Transportation has five restrictions in the works, including closures on Interstate 10 and Loop 303 for the filming of a Nissan commercial.
- I-10 will have intermittent rolling closures between 16th Street and 19th Avenue from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. The southbound State Route 51 ramp to eastbound Loop 202 and eastbound I-10 ramp to northbound 51 will also be closed at times that day.
- Loop 303 will be closed between Van Buren Street and McDowell Road from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday, and the I-10 ramps in both directions to southbound Loop 303 will be closed.
- Eastbound I-10 will be reduced to two lanes for construction from 75th Avenue to 59th Avenue from 9 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Saturday, and the eastbound I-10 on-ramp at 75th Avenue will be closed.
- Westbound I-10 will be reduced to two lanes for sign installation between the Interstate 17 interchange and 35th Avenue from 10 p.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday, and the westbound I-10 on-ramp at 27th Avenue will be closed.
- Eastbound I-10 will be reduced to one lane for bridge work near 59th Avenue overnight Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.
