PHOENIX – Another storm has unloaded snow on an Arizona city Wednesday that has already dug out from underneath a record-breaking one-day total.

The latest snow had dropped 8 inches of snow on Flagstaff by 5 a.m., delaying the start of school and slowing traffic.

Another 3 inches was predicted to hit the ground by noon.

The Arizona Department of Transportation reported wet, snowy conditions had slowed travel on Interstate 17 and 40.

South of there, along State Route 260 out of Payson, the agency recommended drivers put chains on their tires or go with four-wheel drive for the ride east toward Heber.

Farther east, in Show Low, things were gloomy:

However many flakes make it to Flagstaff, they won’t match the sheer volume that hit their marks in and around the area Feb. 21.

Snow levels reached 35.9 inches in the mountainous city, easily busting the previous mark of 31 inches set in 1915.

That storm came down the hills and turned the Valley into a slushie. About 6 inches of snow fell in Cave Creek, 4 inches in Fountain Hills and more than an inch in north Scottsdale.

Only rain has splashed the area the past two days.

John Sawtelle with the National Weather Service said the rain has mostly gone, replaced by wind gusts of up to 35 mph.

But at least it’ll be sunny.
