PHOENIX – It didn’t appear on screen, but Luke Air Force Base played a part in the year’s biggest blockbuster movie.
While preparing for the role of ace pilot Maria Rambeau in “Captain Marvel,” English actress Lashana Lynch got a high-speed taste of Air Force life at the West Valley base.
On Friday, while the latest Marvel superhero flick was conquering box offices across the U.S., video of Lynch’s 2018 visit was posted to Luke’s social media accounts.
And it wasn’t just a tour of the facility.
Lynch went for a breathtaking ride in an F-16 fighter jet.
What an honour!!! Thank you @LukeAFB for welcoming me into your world. And to Lt Col Kristin Hubbard and Lt Col Kathryn Gaetke for showing me what a real life superhero is. Salute!!!! 👮🏾♀️ https://t.co/BTJBG85TEB

The actress retweeted the video and thanked the pilots she shadowed at Luke, Lt. Col. Kristin Hubbard and Lt. Col. Kathryn Gaetke, “for showing me what a real life superhero is.”
According to a comment by Luke on its Facebook post, celebrity flights like Lynch’s don’t use taxpayer dollars, and being involved in the production helped the Air Force “ensure it was accurately represented while targeting key recruiting demographics.”
“Captain Marvel,” with Brie Larsen in the title role, raked in more than $150 million domestically during its opening weekend and already is the highest-grossing film of 2019.
