PHOENIX – The West Valley suburb of Peoria announced this week it has partnered with a national technology company to run its police department’s alarm program.
The city already required all businesses and homes that have alarms to register their systems and pay annual fees.
The police department previously ran the program, but Dallas-based PM AM Corporation took it over March 1.
PM AM is now responsible for alarm registration, false alarm billing and training, and customer service on the program.

According to the company’s website, its service increases compliance, reduces false alarms and saves money for cities.
All data from previously registered alarms has been transferred to the new administrator, so no action is required from anybody already in the program.
Peoria updated its alarm fees last year. For residential, initial registration is $20 and annual renewal is $10. For commercial, registration is $140 and renewal is $20.
Penalties for excessive false alarms range from $50 to $250, depending on frequency, per city ordinance.
Unregistered systems are also subject to penalties.
Residents and business owners can find more information about the program, pay fees and apply for permits online. They can also call PM AM at 888-509-9159 weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. CST.
