PHOENIX — It’s beginning to feel a lot like spring in the Valley.

Phoenix hit 80 degrees for the first time this year on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the first day in the 80s usually occurs around Feb. 9, making this year almost a month overdue.

However, below-80 days have lasted as long as April 11, which happened in 1958.

“Temperatures are warming back in the 80s for the first time this year,” ABC15 meteorologist Iris Hermosillo told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday.

“We’ll hit 80 degrees this afternoon, putting us about six degrees above the normal high for this time of year.”

But the Valley is expected to get even warmer as the week goes on. “Wednesday will be the warmest day of the week with a high of 84, putting us about 10 degrees above normal,” she said.

The last time Phoenix saw temperatures in the 80s was in early November, and last month saw a lot of highs in the 60s.

Despite the warmer weather, Hermosillo said residents should not expect to be done with winter yet.

The weather is expected to cool down in the Valley by the end of the week and into the weekend.

There will be a higher chance for scattered rain showers in the Valley and some snow in northern Arizona on Friday.

“Highs will be dropping into upper 60s on Friday. We’ll dry out this weekend, but temperatures will only reach the upper 60s to low 70s, and then we’ve got another chance of rain on Monday,” Hermosillo added.
