PHOENIX — Arizona was ranked as the No. 18 state most economically impacted by immigration, according to a personal finance website.
WalletHub compared all states plus the District of Columbia across four categories: immigrant workforce, socioeconomic contribution, brain gain and innovators, and international students.
The ranking looked at 20 key metrics, including work visas per capita, share of foreign-born business owners, share of foreign-born population and economic contributions of international students per capita.
Although Arizona ranked highly overall, it fell to the bottom for one category — the state came in at No. 49 for median household income of foreign-born population.
According to the Migration Policy Institute, just over 13 percent of Arizona’s population in 2017 was foreign born, with almost 62 percent of those residents born in Latin America.
The top three states most impacted by immigration were California, New York and New Jersey.
The states least impacted by immigration were Mississippi, Wyoming and South Dakota.
