PHOENIX — One Phoenix-area city will soon see one of its taxes increase.
Sales tax in Scottsdale on Friday will rise 0.1 percent and will stay that way for the next ten years.
The money will pay for road repair and expansion in 22 spots, like “interchange improvements, both on the Pima Freeway, one at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard, the other at Raintree Drive,” said transportation director Paul Basha.
He said he hopes the sales tax will raise up to $13 million a year, until the hike expires.
Most projects “are in the northern part of the city, where the roads have not been improved in 30 years,” Basha said.
Ten projects are set for Shea Boulevard. In November, 52 percent of Scottsdale voters approved the tax increase.
“These projects will accommodate the existing traffic volumes as well as traffic volumes on these identified streets through the year 2035 and beyond,” Basha said.
