PHOENIX — A 33-year-old man was killed Saturday night following an altercation in a “food store” parking lot, according to Phoenix Police.
A 32-year-old man and a woman were in the parking lot near 59th Avenue and Thomas Road when they were confronted by the victim, who police said was in “an ongoing relationship” with the woman.
The victim reportedly yelled at the man and woman, grabbed the steering wheel of their vehicle and tried to enter the car through the driver’s side window.
The man in the car threatened to shoot the victim, but the victim hung onto the wheel as the man backed up the car, hitting the victim’s vehicle.
At some point, police said, the gun discharged and struck the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man waited at the scene and called the police.
Police said the investigation was ongoing.
The incident occurred around the same time another fatal shooting happened down the road.
A man was killed near 24th Avenue and Thomas Road on Saturday night after he allegedly threatened two women with a knife.
The group was confronted by a man who shot the man with the knife, then fled the scene.
