Gilbert mountain bike officer struck by fleeing vehicle

PHOENIX — A Gilbert police officer was struck by a fleeing vehicle Friday night.
A mountain bike officer team was attempting to stop a suspected impaired reckless driver in the area of Stonebridge and Burk.
The driver struck one of the officers and fled the scene.
The driver, 21-year-old Michael Anthony Jones from Scottsdale, was found nearby and taken into custody.
The officer struck was taken to a local hospital, but was released the same night with no serious injuries.
The officer’s name was not disclosed.
