PHOENIX — A national meat processing company voluntarily recalled nearly 70,000 pounds of frozen chicken nuggets on Friday because they may be contaminated with pieces of wood.
Perdue recalled 68,244 pounds or approximately 49,632 bags of its gluten free Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets.
“After a thorough investigation, we strongly believe this to be an isolated incident, as only a minimal amount of these packages has the potential to contain pieces of wood,” Jeff Shaw, the company’s vice president of quality assurance, said in a statement.
The nuggets were produced in October, had a “best if used by” date of Oct. 25 and were sold at stores nationwide.
They have a UPC bar code of 72745-80656 and the establishment number of P-33944 in the United States Department of Agriculture inspection mark.
The department said Perdue received three complaints that wood was found in the nuggets, but that there have been no confirmed reports of injury associated with the product.
Officials advised anyone who believes they have the product in their freezers to throw them away or return them to the place of purchase.
