PHOENIX — Two people, one with a gunshot wound, were apprehended Thursday afternoon after a suspect eluded authorities following an officer-involved shooting that morning.
The Chandler Police Department said the pair were arrested near the San Marcos Golf Course in the area of Frye and Alma School roads.
The injured person, later identified as 26-year-old Kamari Ameir Diamond, had been on the loose after being shot in the hand by an officer with the Arizona Department of Transportation.
She was taken to be treated at an area hospital.
A man who was apprehended was being considered as an investigative lead.
While the suspect was still at large, Chandler Sgt. Daniel Mejia said the ADOT officer was attempting to serve an arrest warrant when the shooting occurred.
The incident took place around 6 a.m. at an apartment complex near Alma School Road and Chandler Boulevard.
Mejia said one ADOT officer suffered minor injuries after the suspect allegedly ran him over with his vehicle while attempting to flee the scene.
Authorities found the vehicle, which Mejia said had blood in it.
Chandler police were assisting ADOT with the warrant, Mejia added.
It was the fifth officer-involved shooting in the Valley in 2019.
