PHOENIX — A 13-year-old boy was killed in a single-vehicle rollover Wednesday night on Loop 101, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Trooper Kameron Lee with the Arizona Department of Public Safety said the Toyota sedan had drifted onto the right shoulder at 64th Street and collided with a portable message board.

Crews treated the boy at the scene and transported him to a pediatric trauma center in extremely critical condition, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Fire officials initially said the boy was 10 years old. The driver, a 44-year-old male, received minor injuries from the crash.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

Eastbound lanes on the freeway were closed between 64th Street and Scottsdale Road, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. It reopened early Thursday.
