PHOENIX – Bad news, Scooby-Doo fans. You missed your chance to buy a sweet replica of the Mystery Machine.
That’s right, somebody restored a 1968 Ford Econoline van to look exactly like the vehicle Scooby-Doo and those meddling kids use to thwart bad guys in cartoons and movies.
An intrepid bidder snatched up the custom ride for $59,400 on Tuesday at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale.
The resemblance to the famous crime-fighting cruiser goes well beyond the familiar bright blue, green and orange paint job.
The far-out interior has a matching color scheme with images of the show’s characters and groovy lighting.
And of course there’s a ghost finder instrument panel to deal with phantoms, spirits and assorted ghouls.
The annual auction runs through Sunday at WestWorld of Scottsdale.
Barrett-Jackson said there were 1,800 no-reserve vehicles lined up for the nine-day event, the most on record for any public collector car auction.
