PHOENIX — The Barrett-Jackson classic car auction is headed back to the Valley in a big way.

The 48th annual car auction kicks off Saturday as car enthusiast and bidders make their way to WestWorld of Scottsdale.

But this year, the weeklong event, which ends on Jan. 20, is packing a bigger punch.

According to Barrett-Jackson, there are 1,800 no-reserve vehicles, the most on record for any public collector car auction.

“With over 1,800 cars set to cross the block, this is will be our largest consignment in history,” Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson, said in a press release. “It’s an honor that a record number of our customers have consigned their collector cars for this month’s Scottsdale Auction.

“We’re using every square inch of our facility to showcase these beautiful cars, and will have 37 hours of live TV coverage on MotorTrend and Discovery. We couldn’t be more excited about what’s going to happen in Scottsdale this year. The world’s attention will be focused on Barrett-Jackson and it’s going to be phenomenal.”

On Saturday and Sunday, those interested in the auction can view all the cars up for bid, including John Lennon’s 1965 Mercedes-Benz 230SL Roadster and three of Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald’s classic cars, as well as viewing live vehicle rebuilds and a BMX team exhibition, among other events.

Jan. 14 is when the auction officially starts.

But what about tickets?

Over the course of the event, ticket prices will increase. Child tickets range from $12-$35, while adult admissions is between $20-$80. In addition, there are also festival passes, which range from $80-$195 per person.

Last year, the cars sold at the auction put the company over the $100 million mark for charitable donations.
