PHOENIX — The majority of people who went to the movies in the U.S. this past year were more than willing to sit down and indulge in a superhero flick.

According to BoxOfficeMojo, Marvel’s “Black Panther” brought in more than $700 million from U.S. box offices while it was in theaters from Feb. 16 to Aug. 9.

That was about $22 million over the next movie, the highly anticipated “Avengers: Infinity War.” The Marvel film brought in $678 million from April 27 to Sept. 13.

The only other film to make more than $500 million from U.S. theaters this past year was Disney-Pixar’s “Incredibles 2,” a sequel to the 2004 animated flick that was 14 years in the making.

“Incredibles 2,” starring Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter, brought in $608 million from nostalgic fans between its June 15 premiere and Dec. 13.

Here are the rest of the films that made up the top 10 highest-grossing in the U.S. in 2018:

• “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”: $416,769,345

• “Deadpool 2”: $318,491,426

• “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch”: $265,538,485
