Action, superhero flicks top list of highest-grossing movies in 2018

PHOENIX — The majority of people who went to the movies in the U.S. this past year were more than willing to sit down and indulge in a superhero flick.
According to BoxOfficeMojo, Marvel’s “Black Panther” brought in more than $700 million from U.S. box offices while it was in theaters from Feb. 16 to Aug. 9.
That was about $22 million over the next movie, the highly anticipated “Avengers: Infinity War.” The Marvel film brought in $678 million from April 27 to Sept. 13.
The only other film to make more than $500 million from U.S. theaters this past year was Disney-Pixar’s “Incredibles 2,” a sequel to the 2004 animated flick that was 14 years in the making.
“Incredibles 2,” starring Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter, brought in $608 million from nostalgic fans between its June 15 premiere and Dec. 13.
