California farm recalls cauliflower distributed in Arizona over E. coli fears

PHOENIX — A California farm has issued a recall of cauliflower that was distributed to wholesalers to states across the country, including Arizona, over possible E. coli contamination.

Adam Bros. Farming, Inc. announced last week that it was recalling its cauliflower, as well as its red leaf and green leaf lettuce, “out of an abundance of caution.”

The Santa Monica, California, company said the cauliflower that was affected by the recall was harvested between Nov. 27 and 30.

None of the recalled products have tested positive for E. coli and no illnesses have been reported, the company said.

The red or green leaf lettuce that was recalled was not distributed to retailers in Arizona.

Adam Bros. Farming is asking anyone who believes they have any of the recalled products to throw them out right away and notify the “downline chain of custody to insure a full recall.”

The company said the recall was initiated after it was discovered that sediment from a reservoir near where the produce was grown tested positive for E. coli.

Officials believe filtered and treated water from the reservoir may have come in contact with the produce after it was harvested, but said none of the water has tested positive for E. coli.

Infections from E. coli can cause symptoms such as severe stomach cramps, diarrhea and vomiting. Most people recover within a week, but some illnesses can last longer and be more severe.
