PHOENIX — A Phoenix-area sergeant was fired from his position earlier this year, allegedly, in part for his racist posts on Facebook.
Sean Maas, who used to work with the Avondale Police Department, was fired on Sept. 13, according to city spokeswoman Pier Simeri.
Maas was originally placed on paid administrative leave on Aug. 22, after he returned from another leave. He appealed his termination on Sept. 17.
Simeri said Maas was fired in part for violating the city’s and police department’s policy “that relate(s) to inappropriate social media posts.”
Susan Segal, an attorney representing the city of Avondale, told The Associated Press that Maas was fired in part because of racially insensitive Facebook posts.
A couple with whom Maas was in business said at least one of his posts targeted them because the man is black and the woman is part Hispanic, according to 3TV.
Erica and Reginald Sayles told the TV station that Maas took to social media after the couples had a falling out.
