Two adults injured in accident involving Gilbert school bus in Mesa

PHOENIX – Two adults were injured, one seriously, in an accident involving a school bus and a passenger vehicle in Mesa on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
No students on the Gilbert Public Schools bus were hurt during the incident in the area of Baseline Road and Stapley Drive, according to the Mesa Fire and Medical Department.
The driver of the vehicle was hospitalized with serious injuries, and the bus driver was taken to the hospital for a precautionary assessment.
It wasn’t clear how the accident happened.

Motorists were told to expect delays in the area while the scene was being investigated.
TV helicopter footage showed the bus facing west on the curb outside the Queen of Heaven Catholic Cemetery on the north side of Baseline near Harris Drive.
The passenger vehicle had crossed the median into eastbound traffic before it stopped.
