Phoenix Children’s is lone Arizona facility to win 2018 Top Hospital award

PHOENIX – Phoenix Children’s Hospital was the only facility in Arizona recognized as a top hospital for 2018 by a prominent national health care organization.
The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit medical center watchdog, revealed the recipients of its annual Top Hospital awards Tuesday, and PCH was one of 13 children’s hospitals and 118 overall to earn the honor this year.
“Being acknowledged as a Top Hospital is an incredible feat achieved by less than 6 percent of eligible hospitals nationwide,” Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, said in a press release.
“With this honor, Phoenix Children’s has established its commitment to safer and higher quality care.”

Leapfrog, which was founded in 2000, has been handing out the awards since 2009, and PCH has been on the list four times.
For the 2018 awards, Leapfrog analyzed survey data covering a wide range of subjects from nearly 1,900 general, children’s, rural and teaching hospitals.
“Receiving the Leapfrog award for the fourth time underscores the exceptional standards our staff strive to meet each day,” Bob Meyer, PCH president and CEO, said in the release.
“We continue to reexamine our quality improvement processes and patient experience and never settle for the status quo.”
No Arizona hospitals earned Leapfrog Top Hospital honors in 2017, and only six state medical centers other than PCH have ever won the award: Mesa’s Banner Heart Hospital (2016), Page Hospital (2016), Sun City’s Banner Boswell Medical Center (2015), HonorHealth Scottsdale Thompson Peak Medical Center (2015), Phoenix’s Mayo Clinic (2009 and 2014) and Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Medical Center (2014).
