PHOENIX — If you’re looking for a spacious apartment, Arizona may not be the place to be.

Apartment rental website RENTCafé ranked four Arizona cities among the top 15 in the U.S. with the smallest average apartment sizes.

Out of 100 cities, Tucson apartments ranked No. 6 with an an average of 738 square feet.

Glendale (No. 8 at 781 square feet), Phoenix (No. 9 at 783 square feet) and Mesa (No. 14 at 801 square feet) apartments followed close behind.

Nationally, the smallest apartments were in Seattle, averaging 711 square feet.

The roomiest apartments were mostly found in the Southeast.

Tallahassee, Florida, had the largest apartments, averaging 1,038 square feet.

The website found that apartments across the U.S. have steadily been getting smaller.

The average apartment in 2018 (including studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom) was 5.2 percent smaller than in 2008.

Between 2008 and 2018, the average Phoenix apartment size shrank by 19 percent.

However, it’s a different story when it comes to houses.

Last month, Phoenix was ranked among the top 10 cities in the nation for largest house size.
