PHOENIX – As predicted, rain fell in metro Phoenix and snow fell in and around Flagstaff but it all was more than expected, weather experts said Friday.

A storm dropped from a quarter-inch of rain on some parts of the Valley and almost an inch in other parts Thursday night, the National Weather Service reported.

“It is a bit more than we were thinking a day ago,” Andrew Deemer, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Phoenix, said.

There was enough lightning to knock out power to some Arizona Public Service customers in Phoenix, the company said.

The show in Flagstaff was mostly snow — over a half-foot of snow blanketed the city, forcing school closures.

About one-third of an inch rain fell at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, bumping up the year’s total at the site to just about 9 inches, an inch above normal.

North Scottsdale took in a little less than an inch, Apache Junction 0.57 inches and Deer Valley 0.47 inches.

Not much rain was expected Friday or the rest of the weekend.
