PHOENIX — Billy Joel, the “Piano Man” and six-time Grammy Award winner, will perform at Chase Field in Phoenix in March, it was announced Wednesday.

Joel will visit Phoenix on March 9. It will be his first-ever baseball stadium appearance in Arizona.

Tickets for the show will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Dec. 7 at LiveNation.com.

“We are thrilled to have music legend Billy Joel perform at Chase Field,” Derrick Hall, Arizona Diamondbacks president and CEO, said in a statement.

“Billy’s music is known and loved amongst fans across multiple generations, much like baseball, and we are excited to offer our fans an additional form of entertainment at Chase Field.”

In addition to the Phoenix performance, Joel will also perform next year at Amway Center in Orlando on Jan. 11, New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Jan. 24, Feb. 14 and March 21 and Wembley Stadium in London on June 22.

Joel, whose real name is William Martin Joel, started his solo music career in 1971 with the release of “Cold Spring Harbor.”

Joel, 69, signed with Columbia Records in 1972 and released his second solo album, “Piano Man,” which contained the single of the same name.

He released his breakthrough album, “The Stranger,” in 1977, which went on to become Columbia Records’ best-selling release with more than 10 million copies sold.

In 1978, Joel’s album “52nd Street” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. “It’s Still Rock & Roll To Me,” a single on his seventh album, “Glass Houses,” was the first single to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Joel has been nominated for 23 Grammy Awards. He has also sold more than 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame  in 1999 and the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in 2006.

Joel retired from writing and releasing music after the 1993 release of “River of Dreams.”

Joel’s 100th performance at Madison Square Garden occurred in July. He started performing a monthly residency at the arena in 2014. No artist has performed at the famed venue more than Joel.
