PHOENIX — Thanksgiving “dinner” was served early at the the Phoenix Zoo’s Monkey Village.
The zoo’s annual Feast with the Beasts took place Wednesday morning, with the squirrel monkeys’ typical breakfast items set up to resemble a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
Plates of food were laid out on a table covered in a red cloth, and fruit juice was served in champagne flutes.
The feast consisted of chopped greens with sunflower seeds, bananas, papaya and a “turkey” made out of marmoset diet.
It was topped off with a winter squash pie for dessert.
A video posted to the zoo’s Facebook page showed the monkeys scurrying over ropes hanging across the table and reaching down to grab morsels to enjoy.
Feeding the animals in unique ways isn’t just fun for keepers and zoo visitors, the post said; it’s also a great form of enrichment for the critters.
