PHOENIX — Patients at Phoenix Children’s Hospital got a special treat on Tuesday — and one lucky Arizona Cardinals fan got an exciting surprise.
Doughnut giant Dunkin’ hosted a football-themed party for patients at the hospital’s Child Life Zone.
Dozens of kids got free doughnuts and hot chocolate. They also got to take photos with Dunkin’s mascot Sprinkles and the Arizona Cardinals’ mascot Big Red.
“We just wanted to come to the hospital to bring a little bit of joy to the kids,” said Heather Morin, integrated marketing manager for Dunkin’.
As part of the celebration, Dunkin’ also gave four tickets to the upcoming Arizona Cardinals game against the Detroit Lions to 12-year-old Melanie and her family.

Morin said Dunkin’ wanted to put a smile on Melanie’s face as she tackles a rhabdoid tumor. In addition to the tickets, she also got Dunkin’ gift cards and Cardinals merchandise.
Melanie said she has been a Cardinals fan for years and got into football because of her uncles.
She said she is most excited to see wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald at the game.
“I’m also excited about the seats and the popcorn and the game — the whole game,” she said. “I’m excited for the cheerleaders too.”
Her mother, Bianca Lopez, said going to the game will have a positive impact on her daughter.
“She’s going to be very happy, because it’s going to be her first game,” she said. “She has never been to a Cardinals game, so she’ll be excited.”
