Cirque du Soleil bringing ‘Amaluna’ to Valley for 38 shows in March, April

Nov 20, 2018, 4:30 PM

PHOENIX – Cirque du Soleil’s “Amaluna” – a celebration of love and the work of women loosely based on Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” – will set up camp in the Valley for a month of shows in the spring.

The famed performance troupe announced Tuesday that it has scheduled 38 performances from March 15 to April 14 in a big top tent to be erected at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.

Tickets go on sale to the general public Monday. For anybody who joins the Cirque Club, or already is a member, a presale started Tuesday and runs until Sunday. Presale tickets are 25 percent off for price levels 1-3 on select shows.

There also will be 25 percent discounts available for Cyber Monday (Nov. 26) and 20 percent discounts Dec. 5-30.

“Amaluna” – a combination of “ama,” meaning mother, and “luna,” meaning moon – is the name of the mysterious island where the show is set.

The performance will feature the spectacular costumes and sets, pulse-pounding music and heart-stopping acrobatics that make the Cirque du Soleil experience so compelling.

“Amaluna” is the first Cirque show to feature an all-female band and was directed by Broadway veteran Diane Paulus, who won a 2013 Tony for the revival of “Pippin.”

The touring show debuted in Montreal in 2012 and has been performed in the U.S., Europe and South America.
