PHOENIX — A single-engine plane crashed after striking a home Friday in the Navajo County neighborhood Heber-Overgaard, killing two people.
Police identified the pilot as Jay Lynch of Port Orange, Florida, and the only passenger as Lynch’s son Randal of Daytona Beach, Florida.
The 82-year-old father owned a hangar near the neighborhood and was reportedly flying the plane back to Florida from California.
Navajo County Chief Deputy Randy Moffitt said a neighborhood resident found the plane wreckage next to his home.
The resident noticed damage to his home, which is located in a luxury subdivision with a private airstrip, but Moffitt said the plane’s collision with the house was more of a “glancing blow.”
It is unclear why the plan crashed.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
