PHOENIX – A cold front moved into the Phoenix area, bringing the lowest temperatures of the season, but it won’t last long.

“So we’ve got cooler, drier air pushing in across our state,” ABC15 meteorologist Iris Hermosillo told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday. “Strong winds, too.”

After a low of 52 Sunday morning and a high of 74 that afternoon, the temperature dropped to 45 degrees Monday morning at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, nine degrees below normal for the date.

“We even saw a few spots drop into the 30s briefly,” Hermosillo said.

It was the lowest reading in the area since early March. Highs were expected to remain in the 60s on Monday and Tuesday.

The National Weather Service said there will be a repeat of the chill Tuesday morning, with elevated desert areas falling below freezing.

A freeze warning was issued for Globe, east of the Valley.

There are no freeze warnings for the Valley, but precautions should be taken, Hermosillo said.

“It’s going to be a good night to consider bringing the pets indoors,” she said.

“If you have any sensitive plants on the patio, it might be a good night to bring them indoors as well.”

By Wednesday, however, temperatures are expected to return to normal ranges.

“It’s going to be a cold couple of mornings and our afternoons in the 60s again [Tuesday] before we gradually start to warm things back up into the 70s starting Wednesday,” Hermosillo said.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Madison Spence contributed to this report.
