TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) – A police officer in Honduras has allegedly killed five fellow officers in a confused shooting incident at a police station in the northern city of La Ceiba.
The assistant commissioner of Honduran police says there appears to have been some sort of dispute between the officers.
Assistant commissioner Kelsin Arteaga says the suspect in the shootings has been detained. Arteaga told the local HRN television network Monday that an investigation is under way into the possible motives in the shooting.
Honduras’ police force is plagued by corruption, and the Central American nation struggles with drug trafficking and a homicide rate of about 91 per 100,000 inhabitants, the highest in the world.
