PHOENIX – A West Valley golf course was shut down indefinitely because two buildings at the 50-year-old venue were found to be unsafe, the city of Glendale announced Wednesday.
Inspections conducted over the summer and last week revealed the need for repairs at the Glen Lakes Golf Course, the city said in a press release.
The inspections covered the clubhouse, which includes the pro shop and restaurant, and the maintenance and restroom buildings.
The clubhouse and maintenance building were declared unsafe to occupy.
The biggest concerns were the roof structure and electrical system.
The Glendale City Council will look into the costs associated with making the facility safe during a workshop previously scheduled for next week.
Glen Lakes, a nine-hole public course near Northern Avenue between 53rd and 55th avenues, first opened in 1968, according to its website.
Editor’s note: Glen Lakes Golf Course will temporarily reopen on Dec. 1 and will operate between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily.
