PHOENIX — Police in Eloy said a 13-year-old middle school student was taken into custody Tuesday after another student said the boy had been showing off a handgun.
Police said the boy didn’t threaten anyone and reportedly brought the gun to Toltec Middle School on Tuesday to protect himself after other students said they would assault him.
Pinal Central online reported that school staff took the weapon away from the teen.
The school was placed on lockdown that was lifted shortly past noon.
The Eloy Police Department is currently investigating and incident at the Toltec Middle School. All students, teachers and staff are safe and accounted for. We will release more details shortly.
