PHOENIX — Blockchain company Bitmain announced Thursday that it plans to expand its presence in Chandler.

Bitmain, which produces blockchain hardware, software and services, will open an 8,000-square-foot office in the city’s Park at San Tan facility near Ray Road and the Price Freeway.

In a news release, the company cited the city’s pool of engineering talent, residential growth and history with the semiconductor industry as factors in its decision.

Bitmain currently employs 18 people in Chandler and plans to grow its staff in the East Valley suburb by 50 percent or more in the next year.

There are open positions in senior management, sales and finance, research and engineering.

“Arizona and Chandler have created a perfect environment for companies in FinTech and Blockchain to grow and thrive. We’re proud to welcome Bitmain to our community,” Chandler Councilmember Mark Stewart said in a news release.

Bitmain was founded in Beijing in 2013 and has offices in multiple countries.
