Phoenix middle school to create National Christmas Tree ornament

PHOENIX — Isaac Middle School in Phoenix has been asked to create a state-themed ornament to contribute to the National Christmas Tree.
The National Park Service and Department of Education teamed up to choose 56 schools across the country to create decorations for the tree in Washington, D.C.
The first National Christmas Tree was placed on the South Lawn of the White House in 1923.
President Calvin Coolidge pushed a button that Christmas Eve to light the 48-foot fir from Vermont.
This year, the tree is a Colorado blue spruce from Virginia.
The tree and its ornaments will be on display at the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 28.
The ornaments from all 56 states and territories will be on display through Jan. 1.
