PHOENIX – The official numbers are in for voter registration in Arizona.

There are 3,716,161 voters in the state eligible to cast ballots in the Nov. 6 midterm election, Secretary of State Michele Reagan announced Friday. That’s an increase of 83,824 since the August primary election.

“Interest in this year’s midterm elections is extremely high and that has translated into a large increase in Arizonans registering to vote,” Reagan said in a press release.

The number of registered Democrats increased by 40,165, while Republicans saw an uptick of 24,307.

That trimmed the GOP’s advantage from 152,715 voters to 136,587 voters.

The Republican total of 1,288,332 registered voters represents 35 percent of the state’s electorate. The Democrats have 1,151,745 voters (31 percent).

Of the remainder, 1,238,038 (33 percent) are registered without a party preference, 31,583 are Libertarians and 6,463 chose the Green party.

“Now we will continue to encourage people to return their early ballots or locate their polling location as soon as they can,” Reagan said.

Early voting began in the state Oct. 10. In addition to the option of mail-in ballots, Phoenix-area voters can cast their ballots early at one of Maricopa County’s voting centers.
