PHOENIX – There’s a new item for your Christmas wish list, Garth Brooks fans.
The country music superstar announced Wednesday that he’s coming to the Valley as part of a North American stadium tour.
The only details released about the tour were that the first two stops will be State Farm Stadium in Glendale and The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis, and that tickets for five cities will go on sale before Christmas.
That means the Country Music Hall of Famer’s first Phoenix-area show since 2015 will be sometime next year.
In October 2015, Brooks had a mini-residency with six shows at Talking Stick Resort Arena in downtown Phoenix. He performed Oct. 16 and 17 before returning for two shows each on Oct. 23 and 24.
Brooks has only played a few shows this year, including the closing spot for April’s Stagecoach festival in California.
He’ll be in action Saturday night at Indiana’s Notre Dame Stadium, with a sold-out show that will be recorded for a Dec. 2 CBS special.
He toured steadily from September 2014 through 2017. That run of shows, known as the World Tour, was the highest-grossing country tour of all time and the ninth most lucrative overall, according to Wikipedia.
According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Brooks has sold 148 million albums – more than any artist in history other than The Beatles.
He’s the only performer to have seven certified diamond records for sales exceeding 10 million units.
His best-selling work, 1998’s “Double Live,” is No. 8 on the all-time album sales list at 21 million units.
