PHOENIX — A ram was on the loose in the East Valley on Wednesday before it was hit by multiple cars and killed while attempting to cross a major highway.
The ram, which was initially described as a goat, was first spotted by news helicopters in the area of Dobson Road and Main Street in Mesa around noon on Tuesday.
It was eventually killed on the Loop 101 in the East Valley while Mesa police were working to capture it and bring it home safely, Det. Nik Rasheta told KTAR News 92.3 FM.

The highway was not closed.
It was not immediately known where the ram escaped from.
The short-lived chase captured the Valley’s attention, invoking memories of the Sun City llama chase in 2015.
