Longtime Scottsdale restaurant Cowboy Ciao says goodbye

PHOENIX — Say goodbye to Cowboy Ciao.
The eclectic Old Town Scottsdale staple shut its doors for the last time Monday night.
The closure was announced on the restaurant’s Facebook page earlier that day.
“Unfortunately, an end of an era has come upon us,” the post said. “Tonight is the last night Cowboy Ciao will be open.
“Thank you to all for the wonderful memories and support over the years.”

Cowboy Ciao, famous for its Stetson Chopped Salad and extensive wine list, opened on Stetson Drive west of Scottsdale Road in 1997.
According to the history page on the restaurant’s website, it started as “a neighborhood joint with wine-friendly fare focused on Italy, Mexico and the American Southwest.”
The Exotic Mushroom Pan Fry was the last item remaining from the restaurant’s original menu.
There was no answer at the restaurant Tuesday afternoon, and the Facebook post didn’t mention the fate of the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport location.
If you can’t bear the thought of never having another Stetson Chopped Salad, don’t worry.
The iconic item is now available next door at New Wave Market.
