PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation is warning drivers to anticipate heavier traffic ahead of two major sporting events in both sides of the Valley that are scheduled for Thursday night.
The Arizona Cardinals will kickoff against the Denver Broncos at 5:20 p.m. at Glendale’s State Farm Stadium, while the Arizona State Sun Devils will face off with the Stanford Cardinal team at Sun Devil Football Stadium in Tempe at 6 p.m.
Drivers who planned to use the Interstate 10 west of downtown Phoenix to see the Cardinals play should expect to see the heaviest afternoon traffic.
To avoid that traffic, they can instead use the Loop 101 in the West Valley.
Traffic was expected to ramp up as early as 1:30 p.m., when parking lots for the game will open. The gates to the stadium will open at 3:45 p.m.
But drivers can track real-time highway conditions through message boards along the freeways, on ADOT’s website, by calling 511 and through ADOT’s Twitter.
Tickets for the Cardinals game were still available from $62, while tickets for the Sun Devils’ game were available for as low as $6.
