Arizona State Fair shuts down as rain continues to fall in Phoenix

PHOENIX — With rain pounding the Phoenix area, the Arizona State Fair closed its doors on Saturday.
In a tweet, fair officials announced that the fair would be closed for the remainder of the day as the weather continued through the afternoon.
Thank you everyone for braving today’s storm. For the first time in recent memory The Arizona State Fair is closing due to weather.

As of 2:50 p.m., the area where the fair is located received 2.36 inches of rain, making it one of the more harder hit areas around the Valley.
The National Weather Service Phoenix tweeted that with Saturday’s downpour, Oct. 2018 became the wettest October ever in Phoenix. The 4.45 inches of rainfall this month rank as the tenth wettest month of all time.
Thunderstorms were expected to continue into the night with isolated storms expected until 10:00 p.m.
Although the Arizona State Fair shut down Saturday, it is expected to return to regular hours on Sunday.
The fair opened Oct. 5 and runs through Oct. 28.
